The Federal Government said it has begun moves to evacuate Nigerian students from Sunday.
As at press time, over 200 persons were reported to have died from the fighting in Sudan, which began days ago.
Following this, Nigerian student had written to the Government to evacuate them.
Responding to the request, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the Federal Government has commenced moves for the evacuation of the students.
A statement on Friday by NiDCOM, signed by Gabriel Odu, said: “Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has noted with concern the plight of Nigerian Students in Sudan over the escalation of hostilities between the Sudanese Army and the Paramilitary group-Rapid Support Forces.”
Odd said in the statement said the Commission has received the letter of solicitation by the National Association of Nigerian Students Sudan for possible evacuation of students, especially those in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, and assured that the National Emergency Management Agency, which is in charge of emergency evacuations, is consulting with the Nigerian mission in Sudan and other relevant agencies.
Dabiri-Erewa, therefore, urged all Nigerian Students in Sudan as well as Nigerians living in Sudan to be security conscious and calm.
