He said: “I am an Assistant Manager Programme.
“I usually resume work very early in the morning.
“To my greatest surprise, I was not allowed to enter the building.
“I was not harassed by any of the RATTAWU officials.
“Instead, they told me to go back home that there was no work today.”
Another staff of Radio Niger, who only gave his name as Iliyasu, disclosed that even the management staff were not allowed into the building.
Iliyasu said: “As you can see, the gate is locked down.
“RATTAWU officials at the gate are trying to enforce that strike action by not allowing any worker to access the building.”
One of the RATTAWU officials who pleaded anonymity said so far, there has been compliance by the workers.
She said the officials were at every gate of all government-owned media houses to ensure that nobody violeted the rule.
Also, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Niger State chapter, Iliya Garba, said it is just a three-day warning strike.
Garba promised that the council would meet with the state’s Head of Service as part of efforts to ensure the government approves the allowances.
He said: “All that the government needs to do is to approve the weigh-in allowance.
“We have tabled everything in a chart.
“The money we are fighting for is not more than N8 million monthly.”
