Senator decries killing of Plateau citizens by gunmen

The Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Istifanus Gyang, on Tuesday condemned the killing of some Plateau State citizens on Sunday and Monday by unknown gunmen.
Gyang made this known in a statement made available to newsmen and signed by Musa Ashoms, his Special Adviser on Media and Protocol, in Jos.
The representative of Plateau North Senatorial District was reacting to the successive attacks and killing of 15 people of Kwattas and Ruboi villages in Bokkos Local Government.
”At home, in their ancestral neighbourhoods, they are not safe. What a tragedy,” he said.
Gyang described the killing as a sad development toward the peace-building efforts in the state.
He said the renewed escalation of attacks on host communities raised questions about the state of security in the state.
“Only last week, Kombun village in Mangu Local Government Area was attacked and now, it is Kwattas and Ruboi villages in neighbouring Bokkos Local Government Area,” he said.
Gyang condemned the Kwattas and Ruboi attacks and urged security agencies to live up to their constitutional responsibility of securing law-abiding citizens.
He urged security agents to deal decisively with those bent on displacing and uprooting Plateau State citizens and host communities from their ancestral homes.
