The immediate-past Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has congratulated Nigeria’s Men’s Basketball Team, D’Tigers, on their historic win over Team USA in an exhibition match ahead of the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
Tweeting on his: @BukolaSaraki Twitter handle, the former Governor of Kwara State, who is an avid basketball fan, hailed D’Tigers.
Saraki said: “Impressive performance by our Men’s Basketball Team, D’Tigers! Coming back from a 10-point deficit against Team USA — it’s great to see how much they have all grown individually and collectively!
“Let’s take this great form to the Olympics.”
In one of the most stunning international upsets in history, Nigeria defeated Team USA 90-87 at home in Las Vegas, USA.
According to ESPN: “Coming into the game the Americans had been 54-2 in exhibition games since professionals started playing in 1992, and just nine years ago beat Nigeria by 83 points.”
With this victory, the Nigerian squad, which has seven current NBA players, becomes the first African nation to defeat Team USA in a basketball game.
