The 2016 budgets of 38 Federal Government agencies, including the News Agency of Nigeria and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, passed second reading at the House of Representatives on Thursday.
In the “Bills for Act to authorize the issue from the statutory revenues of the following agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria”, the Federal Inland Revenue Services has the highest amount of N143.5 billion.
The FIRS is followed by Nigeria Customs Service and Federal Mortgage Bank with budgets of N81.2 billion each.
The Federal Airports Authority has allocation of N72.6 billion.
The News Agency of Nigeria has N1.6 billion; Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, N9.1 billion; Nigerian Television Authority, N6.9 billion; and Central Bank of Nigeria N420.7 million.
The Nigeria Postal Service has an estimate of N34.365 billion, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency N19.79 billion and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency N39.01 billion.
A total of N7.22 billion is allocated to National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, National Broadcasting Commission N1.79 billion, while the Nigerian Copyright Commission has N1.14 billion estimated expenditure.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation proposal for the period is N15.14 billion, Corporate Affairs Commission N15.02 billion, Standard Organisation of Nigeria N29.33 billion and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission N7.78 billion.
Others include that of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for N28.26 billion and Industrial Training Fund N39 billion.
The Federal Housing Authority and Nigerian Communication Commission for N41.42 billion and N70.67 billion respectively.
Leading the debate on the bills, the House Leader, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, pointed out that much benefit would be derived in the passage of the budgets for the agencies.
The budgets were unanimously adopted by members when the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, put it to a voice vote.
