The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin, on Thursday declared that Nigeria needs peace and that the personnel of the Corps should see themselves as agents and vanguard of peace.
Abolurin made the declaration while commending his men for their gallant performance during the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections.
He pointed out that based on the NSCDC personnel’s orientation and contributions through the various town hall meetings and stakeholders programme organized at different fora for the purpose of peaceful conduct of the elections, they are better placed to achieve the task of being agents of positive change.
The CG therefore charged the personnel of the Corps to develop new strategies with a view to properly safeguarding the country from those who may want to take advantage of any loophole to ferment troubles during the governorship and state House of Assembly elections scheduled to hold on Saturday.
The CG urged them not to relent in their doggedness and desire to ensure that Saturday’s elections are conducted in a more peaceful, free and fair atmosphere.
Abolurin similarly appealed to the electorates to be vigilant and not hesitate to report any suspicious act or movement in and around polling units across the federation.
The CG further charged the Zonal Commanders and State Commandants
to ensure effective deployment of personnel to all the nooks and crannies of every state to replicate and double their efforts in providing adequate security at identified black spots, collating centres, INEC offices as well as other designated centres that may
likely to be prone to attack.
Abolurin harped on the need for the NSCDC personnel to ensure proper positioning of sniffer dogs and surveillance vehicles for efficient monitoring of the electoral activities and to work in synergy with other stakeholders.
He called on parents to caution their wards to desist from being used as political thugs by those seeking for power at all cost.
