The Nigeria Police Force has reacted to a news circulating on social media about a Police Constable with a bad eye said to have been newly recruited.
The reaction was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued to newsmen on Tuesday.
According to Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police: “The Nigeria Police Force has become aware of rumours circulating on social media regarding a Police Constable, suggesting that he is part of the newly passed out Constables and thereby unfit for service due to impaired vision. The Force wishes to clarify that contrary to widespread claim, the Constable in question was recruited in top physical condition, and his current state is the result of an unfortunate operational accident which occurred two years ago.
“This Constable, who joined the Force several years ago after meeting all recruitment criteria, sustained a gunshot injury to his left eye during a critical on-duty operation. The injury was a result of his courageous efforts in the line of duty, reflecting bravery and commitment to his core duties. Contrary to the rumours, he is not part of the recently passed-out constables.

“The Nigeria Police Force maintains rigorous recruitment and training standards, ensuring that only candidates who meet the physical and medical requirements are enlisted. This constable’s story is a testament to the resilience and sacrifice of our personnel, who continue to serve their country with dedication despite the challenges they face. Throughout his recovery process, the Force has provided him with full support to ensure his well-being.
“We urge the public and media to refrain from spreading misinformation capable of tarnishing the reputation of our officers and the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force as each member of the Force plays a vital role in maintaining safety and security for all citizens.”
