The police on Friday re-arraigned a cook, Idris Ebiloma, 28, in an FCT High Court on two counts of defilement and sodomising a four-year-old girl.
The police charged Ebiloma with sexual abuse and defilement.
NAN reports that he was first arraigned in 2016.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, John Ijagbemi, made an application to substitute the amended charge in the interest of justice.
Counsel to the defendant, Feyisayo Folorunsho, however, objected to the application because she accused the prosecution of being confused on what to charge the defendant with.
She further argued that the prosecution has amended the charges on two occasions since the case started in 2016.
When the amended two count charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.
The Judge, Justice Angela Otaluka, then ordered a recall of all witnesses to testify in the case of the alleged rape of a four-year-old girl by a cook.
Otaluka warned that the examination of witnesses will be limited strictly to the amended aspect of the charge.
The judge further adjourned the case until October 14, for further hearing of the case.
NAN reports that the police said that the defendant is cook in the victim’s home in Asokoro in Abuja before the incident happened.
The police added that the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police and she was compelled to drop charges against the alleged rapist which she refused and insisted on getting justice for her daughter.
