The Delta State Police Command on Tuesday celebrated its triumph over men of the underworld in 2013.
According to the Command, 486 armed robbers and kidnappers were arrested, just as 116 among the suspects were wounded during different operations across the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ayo Ikechukwu Aduba, said 89 persons who were abducted at different locations across the state were rescued, listing 236 cultists among those smoked out of their hideouts.
Aduba explained that those killed engaged his men in gun duel, either during bank robbery incident or during their kidnapping escapade.
Presenting the score card at the command’s headquarters in Asaba, the state capital, the Commissioner said a total of 164 arms and 1,298 ammunitions as well as 104 stolen vehicles were recovered.
The CP said 88 murder suspects were arrested, 17 pipeline and 15 vandals of the equipment of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria were apprehended.
He also said the Command effectively collaborated with communities that had been very supportive through vibrant and functional vigilante groups.
He lauded the Oghara Vigilante.
“The group,” he noted, “has been unanimously voted as the most outstanding in the state for the year ended 2013.”
Aduba further hailed the prevailing peace that had existed in the state.
He said this “has made it possible for so many national conferences to be held in the state,” adding that the feat would not have been possible but for the constant and relentless assistance rendered to the command by the state government.
He reminded the officers of the challenges ahead, as he urged them to fish out criminals in their various jurisdictions.
