PDM begins nationwide membership registration, promises level playing ground

The Peoples Democratic Movement on Monday began its nationwide membership registration with a promise to ensure level playing ground to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion.
PDM had launched its Online Membership Registration on September 15, 2013, barely a month after it was registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, had said in a statement on Saturday that the party had scheduled March 17 to March 23 for its nationwide membership registration.
Emmanuel Bassa, the PDM Interim Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the registration had fully commenced in the 12 wards across AMAC.
Bassa, who expressed determination of the party to satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of all Nigerians, said that the party was targeting to register at least 5,000 members in each ward in the FCT.
He said: “We have started the PDM membership registration today, which we are hoping to register at least 5,000 members in each ward in FCT.
“We are satisfied with the level of turnout of our teeming supporters, who are driven by the passion to change the fortune of our great country to an enviable height.”
According to Bassa, the membership of the party is free and open to all Nigerians, especially the youth who constitute the most important segment of every nation.
Bassa said that the exercise was designed in such a way that it would be difficult for any member or vested group to hijack the exercise.
He said that the AMAC chapter of the party had directed all its ward leaders to enlighten and educate the people on the ongoing membership registration.
“We have also used both social and online media to sensitise, inform and educate our supporters about the membership registration,” he said.
Also speaking to NAN, Malam Inuwa Musa, the PDM registration officer at the City Centre ward in AMAC, said he had registered 30 members and more people were still turning out for the exercise.
