Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation donates fund to disabled, charges FG on inclusive education

Dissatisfied by the educational status of many disabled persons in Nigeria, the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation has donated cash and educational materials for the building of schools for the disabled in Nigeria.
This was even as the Foundation charged the Federal Government to practice inclusive education to give the disabled a sense of belonging.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, said this during a launch event tagged: “Fun Night Under Classical Music,” organized by The Royal School of Educational Therapy Foundation in Abuja.
Represented by the Vice Chairman of the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, Chief Sam Nkire, Kalu said Nigerians should be worried about the plight of over seven million disabled Nigerians who are not enrolled in schools.
He noted that it is disturbing to read that 95 per cent of the disabled population are from the not privileged homes.
According to him: “People with disabilities face societal prejudice and intolerance in the community, institutions and even amongst their family circle.”
Kalu said it is only inclusive and purpose-driven education that can develop the socio-emotional health, academic success and functional skills of people with disabilities.
It can be recalled that Kalu in his days as Abia State Governor engaged in poverty eradication package and social improvement programmes, which included free services for schools and students.
These were provided through introduction of tuition-free education in both primary and secondary schools, distribution of free computer sets, textbooks, mathematical sets amongst others and the renovation of over 800 schools.
Kalu urged the Federal Government to do whatever it can to promote quality and inclusive education for the children, especially those who have challenges.
Kalu, who was also the Chairman of the occasion, in his closing remark commended  the organizers and Founder of The Royal School of Educational Therapy Foundation, Dr. Princess Badewa T. Adejugbe-Williams.
He complimented their efforts and said the idea of sourcing fund to build school for disabilities is an impressive initiative.
