Suspected armed robbers on Wednesday attacked the Automated Teller Machine of a branch of a bank located on Ajilosun Street, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State carting away undisclosed amount of money.
Although a source said a life was lost during the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, denied that.
Lakanu, however, confirmed the attack on the ATM of the bank.
An eyewitness said he saw a lifeless body in front of the bank and when being conveyed to the morgue but could not say whether the victim was a member of staff of the bank.
Lakanu told journalists on the telephone that the bank was attacked around 2am on Wednesday, adding that one of the attackers had been arrested and helping the police to unravel others on the run.
When journalists visited the bank, there was a large presence of policemen around the bank.
Also customers who besieged the bank for transactions could not be attended to as the financial institution locked its doors.
No official of the bank was ready to say anything.
They directed newsmen to their head office in Lagos.
The attack had also sent fears to some banks in the metropolis as many of them hurriedly shut their doors against customers.
Customers, who spoke to journalists, lamented incessant attacks on banks in the state and called on the government to address it without further delay.
Lakanu said his men were already investigating, adding that those connected with the robbery would be apprehended.
Several bank robberies have occurred in Ekiti State in the last few months, with as many as five policemen killed in one of such operations.
