Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has kicked against the move by the Board of the African Development Bank to try afresh its President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, over alleged favouritism.
The former President made his position known in a letter to the Board of the AfDB, which has taken a position to probe Adesina afresh after the Ethics Committee had cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Obasanjo said the move was in reaction to the position of the United States Government.
He said if the fresh probe was allowed to hold, the United States would have succeeded in hijacking the Bank, a development he noted might lead to its death.
Obasanjo, who addressed his letter to several African leaders, urged them to defend the Bank, adding: “If we do not rise up and defend the AfDB Group, this might mean the end of the bank, as its governance will be hijacked away from Africa.”
