Northern leaders should tackle security challenges – Coomasie

A former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, has urged Northern leaders to tackle the security challenges facing the North.
Coomassie, who is the Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, gave the advice at the emergency meeting of the ACF with Northern non-governmental organisation leaders in Kaduna on Sunday.
He said the security challenges was a critical moment in the nation’s history.
He said: “We must salvage the North and by extension the whole nation.
“Our success will usher vista of hope, respect, unity and cooperation in the North.
“If we fail to save the North, all of us will go down in history as those crops of leaders who have mortgaged the future of their progeny.
“We must all speak not as members of our individual groups, but as members of the arewa family.”
Coomassie said that the insecurity in the North could never be imagined.
He said: “Northern region is under siege and being attacked from all angles and from all field.
“Our sons and daughter in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa are being slaughtered, raped, kidnapped and maimed.”
Coomasie expressed regrets that some town in the North East were under the control of insurgents, adding that that even the traditional and religious leaders were not spared.
