The North Central Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Council, omrade Mohammed A. Mohammed, and the Niger State Chairman of the council, Abdullahi Muregi, have saluted the 8th Senate for the passage of the bill for the establishment of the Nigeria Peace Corps, describing it as commendable step towards the development of the nation’s youths.
The council leaders stated this on Wednesday in Minna at the Nigeria Peace Corps state headquarters, while celebrating the passage of the bill, with officers and cadets of the corps.
Mohammed, in a remark, said Nigerian youths were convinced that the leadership of the Senate was working for the interest of the nation by building the youths.
He explained that the passage of the Peace Corps Bill was a dream fulfilled for Nigerian youths, advising that they continue to ensure peace and harmony of the country by shunning violence.
He expressed appreciation for the role played by Senator David Umaru from Niger State in the smooth passage of the bill, adding: “As young people, we are committed to remain as partners in building the nation.”
Also speaking, Muregi said the passage of the bill has no doubt opened a new chapter in shaping the future of the youths.
He said that the state government has already collected over 2,000 application forms for the recruitment of Niger State youths into the corps
The Niger State Commandant of the Corps, Ibrahim Aliyu, in a remark prayed for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari to enable him sign the bill into law.
Aliyu advised his men to obey all constituted authorities, adding that despite the challenges earlier faced by the corps, light has appeared at the end of the tunnel.
The commandant directed officers and men of the corps to be prepared to work in harmony with all other security agencies, including the police.
