The Safety Awareness and Environmental Support Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organisation, had trained 97 youths in Kaduna State on various environmental challenges.
The Controller-General of SAESI, Malam Yahaya Mohammed, made this known in Kaduna on Saturday during the passing out parade of new intakes into SAESI.
Mohammed said the training had empowered the youth with adequate knowledge on how to tackle environmental problems in their areas.
He said that the training of the youths would complement the effort of the government as well as enhance the operation of the organisation.
Mohammed said that 97 youths from various parts of the country were trained to ensure a clean, safety and healthy environment.
He said that SAESI has been sensitising the general public on Zika and Lassa fever, operation keep Kaduna clean and also on emergency evacuation of waste in the state.
The controller-general said the organisation supported the state government with N1.2 million to evacuate waste in some parts of the state
He appealed to the government to support SAESI with evacuation vans to ease the activities of the organisation.
The state Director for Environment, Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, Ahmed Salihu, described the training programme as timely and important, especially now that the environment is highly threatened.
Salihu said: “There is no environment without man just as there is no man without the environment.
“The organisation has been achieving a lot on waste evacuation. I cannot imagine what they would achieve with this added number.”
Salihu promised that the ministry would support the organisation in ensuring a safe environment.
