Encomiums were showered on former Super Eagles’ winger, George Finidi, as he clocked 50 on Thursday.
Finidi, who played a total of 62 games and scored six goals for the national team between 1991 and 2002, was celebrated by the Nigeria Football Federation.
A message on the NFF Twitter handle stated: “50 hearty cheers to former @NGSuperEagles forward, Finidi George. Thank you George for the memories and have a good one. Happy Golden Jubilee anniversary #Legend.”
Eredivise giants, AFC Ajax, where Finidi reigned for many years and also won the UEFA Champions League, also wrote: “Happy birthday to a legend from some legends.”
Similarly, Finidi’s former teammate both at Ajax and the national team sent goodwill messages.
“Happy birthday Finidi my brother. I wish you many more years and God’s protection and blessings,” Nwankwo Kanu wrote on Twitter.
It can be recalled that Finidi, also known as Finito, was a leading figure in the Ajax team that won eight major titles, including the 1995 Champions League.
He played for several years in Spain with Real Betis, also having a brief spell in England before retiring.
Finidi was an important member of the Nigeria team during the 1990s, appearing in two World Cups.
