With less than four weeks to the 2019 general elections, the National Association of Nigeria Students on Wednesday endorsed Umar Nasko of the Peoples Democratic Party as the preferred candidate of the association for the 2019 gubernatorial election in Niger State.
The Niger State chapter of the association is made up of National Association of Niger State Students; Student Union Government of the Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai; SUG undergraduate section of the College of Education, Minna; Niger State School of Health Technology, Minna; and the Niger State Entertainment and Promoters Association.
Dr. Rabiu Bello, who received the endorsement letter on behalf of Nasko, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure credible, free, fair and rancour free elections.
According to Bello: “We want the INEC to be neutral and ensure they conduct fair and credible elections, because I am very confident that the youths are going to vote for candidate of their age bracket that has the capacity and credibility to create job opportunities and empowerment.”
He said at a public lecture, with the theme: “Issues and Challenges of 2019 Elections,” that all students in the state will cast their votes for Nasko because he has promised to award scholarships and bursaries to students when he assumes office by May 2019.
The Chairman of the students under the auspices of Nasko Students Frontier, Yusuf Americana, while presenting the Frontier’s endorsement letter to Dr. Bello, extolled the qualities of Nasko, saying: “The time has come for us to vote in the only candidate that can liberate us and work for us all.”
The National Vice President of National Association of Niger State Students, Comrade Amina Ibrahim, assured that all Niger State students in higher institutions that are of voting age will cast their votes for Nasko.
The students’ unions from various institutions besieged the Abdulsalami Youth Centre, Minna to pledge their support to Nasko.
Other groups spoke in the same vein as they expressed expectations from him to empower more youths and women when he finally comes into power.
