The News Agency of Nigeria is not recruiting staff and has not asked any person to pay any deposit to any individual or bank for the purpose of recruitment.
NAN said this in a letter addressed to the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, dated January 30, 2015.
“I am directed to bring to your notice a fraudulent text message purported to have emanated from News Agency of Nigeria being circulated to the public,” the letter said.
The letter was signed by Cosmos Okolorie, Assistant Director of Administration and Human Resources Management, on behalf of the Managing Director of the agency, Ima Niboro.
NAN said the message was fraudulent and did not emanate from it.
“The management of News Agency of Nigeria wishes to state categorically that it is not recruiting and has not asked any person to pay any deposit to any individual or bank for the purpose of recruitment,” it said.
According to the letter, the text message requested applicants to pay an undisclosed sum of money into a First Bank account number: 3090663328 belonging to one Chikwendu Chijioke.
It also named one Madam Stella Banigo, with telephone number 08090681197, as the Managing Director of NAN.
The letter added: “It is also pertinent to note that the owner of the said bank account is not a staff of the agency.
“The said Madam Stella Banigo is also not the Managing Director of the Agency, while Emma with phone number: 08146530912 is not on its staff.”
The letter urged both security agencies to take urgent steps to investigate the scam and bring the culprits to book without delay.
