N12m fraud: NPL accountant still in police custody

Weeks after he was arrested for alleged withdrawal of N12 million with a forged signature, the Accountant of the Nigeria Premier League board, Joe Ogbowie, is still in police custody.
Ogbowie, who was picked up by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Garki, Abuja on February, 7, The Eagle Online gathered was yet to meet the bail condition two weeks after his arrest.

We exclusively gathered on Wednesday that the failure of the family of the detained NPL official to raise half of the missing money, N6 million stalled his bail application and subsequent prosecution.
“Part of the conditions for his bail was to return N6 million, 50 per cent, but he has not done that. His family members have promised to do so but they are yet to fulfill the promise,” said our source who sought for anonymity.
The Eagle Online gathered further that the prosecution of Ogbowie could begin next week.
The accountant allegedly confessed that he forged the signature of the Executive Secretary of the NPL to withdraw the said amount last month.
In another development, the management team of the Nigeria Premier League has set up a machinery to ensure the best of officiating in subsequent matches in the ongoing season.
