Society for the Safety of the Insane and Destitute has emerged the winner of the fourth edition of the PG-sponsored Supermom reality show.
The orphanage, which was founded by Concern Felicia R.D. Martins, edged out finalists, Children of Promise orphanage, founded by Pastor Oladapo Idowu, and Vigilant Orphanage by Maria Iriowen Osawemen, to win the grand prize of N2 million cash.
The first and second runners-up got N1 million and N500,000 cash respectively.
SO-SAID was introduced into the reality show in the 8th episode where Mrs. Concern R.D. Martins narrated how rough and tough the journey was when she started.
She said: “In the beginning, I was going about the streets with camera crew and those who can help in carrying the insane for me.
“This made my husband chase me out of the house because he felt I was embarrassing the family.
“Even my first son hit me on the face and I slept on the street for eight months when I started the project.”
Martins, recalled times she has had to shed tears.
She said: “When I see some schools discriminating against my kids, telling the kids not to come to school because they are from So-Said (motherless babies’ home) I shed tears.
“Sometimes, when some kids are picked on the street and they need urgent treatment at the hospital and there is no transportation and money to convey them, I will resolve to do the walking.
“At those moments too, I shed tears.”
Gift Abudu, 44-year-old medical matron at So-Said, described Martins as charitable and God-fearing.
Since it began airing in July, viewers have keenly followed the sacrifices of the founders of motherless babies’ homes and various charitable organizations who nurtured other people’s children without discrimination.
Some of the promoters of orphanages featured in the season four of the PG-sponsored reality show were Cordelia Nweke, late Irene Willoughby of Ijamido Home, Motunrayo Bamidele of SOS Children Village, Betty Obiewu of Living Foundation Orphanage, O.
