Out of favour Super Eagles and Seattle Sounders’ forward, Obafemi Martins has been nominated for MLS Player of The Month award.
Martins, is in the midst of the most productive season in Seattle Sounders history. With four matches left to play, he’s already got the single-season team records with 15 goals and 25 combined goals and assists.
The Nigerian would likely become the third MLS player since 2001 to have 30 combined goals and assists and will be qualified for the MVP candidates’ short list.
In the meantime, though, there’s an award to be contest for the league’s best player in September but Martins has really come alive this month, scoring five goals and adding an assist.
Martins also had a goal in the U.S. Open Cup while eliminating any doubts that his end-of-season slump last year was entirely up to exhaustion.
The striker would become the second Sounders player to win the award this year after Clint Dempsey won it in April.
