A 40-year-old man, Kingsley Maduka, on Monday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly conspiring with others at large to obtain N2.35 million under false pretence.
Maduka, whose address was not provided, is facing three counts bordering on conspiracy, felony to wit stealing and unlawful conversion.
The Prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov.3, 2021, at about 1pm, at Big Mike Auto workshop in Owode-Onirin, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Famuyiwa alleged that the defendant conspired with others still at large to obtain the sum of N2.35 million on pretence to sell a Toyota Corolla car to the complainant, one Obeyor Nelson.
She said the defendant fraudulently converted the money collected from the complainant to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, A. O. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum.
Ogbe adjourned the case until July 7 for mention.
