The Lagos State University Governing Council has approved the promotion of over 600 members of staff (academic and non-academic) in the 2013/2014 exercise.
This was contained in the University’s official bulletin obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos.
The bulletin said the Governing Council made the approval at its 109th statutory meeting.
It said 41 of those promoted were academic staff members.
“The Council approved the promotion of 20 academic staff from Lecturer II to Lecturer I, eight from Lecturer I to Senior Lecturer and 13 from Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer II,” it said.
According to the bulletin, 605 non-academic staff members were also promoted in the exercise.
It said: “309 were senior non-academic members, while 296 were at the junior cadre.”
The LASU management congratulated all the newly promoted members of staff and urged them to continue to be more committed to their respective duties.
NAN reports that issue of No vacancy, No promotion was among the core demands of the LASU staff unions during the past administration of Prof. John Obafunwa.
The promotion issues, among other demands, engendered the crisis that ensued between the university’s workforce and the past administration.
NAN also gathered that the 2013/2014 promotion was eventually carried out by Prof. Obafunwa, but was yet to be approved by the council before the end of his tenure on October 31.
