Kwara to build new police station in Offa, improve security architecture

The Kwara State Government has promised to build a new police station in Offa and improve the security architecture in the ancient town.

The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, made the pledge when he spoke at the palace of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye, during a condolence visit on Saturday.

The visit followed the unleashing of violence on the town by armed robbers on Thursday, which left dead no fewer than 17 persons, including nine policemen.

The police station in the town was also burnt alongside a patrol van.

Ahmed told Oba Esuwoye: “Those who perpetrated this evil  have saddened and inflicted pain on us but they cannot break our spirit.

“I assure you that those behind this wicked act will be apprehended and brought to justice swiftly.

“As always, I stand with you in solidarity and support.

“I pray for the families of the departed and the injured and I salute the valiant police officers who fell on that day.

“We will do everything within our power to ensure that never again will the people of Offa or any part of Kwara State live in fear or experience such tragedy again.

“In the next 45 days, we will build a new police station for Offa at a more strategic location.

“Meanwhile, I have secured the assurance of the Inspector General of Police that the security infrastructure of Offa will be rapidly scaled up.

“Once again, I commiserate with the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Esuwoye II, and the entire people of Offa over last Thursday’s tragedy.”
