The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday approved the naming of the state-owned Northwest University to Yusuf Maitama-Sule University.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje forwarded the request to name the institution after the elder statesman who died on July 3, 2017.
Meanwhile, the assembly has cleared nine more Local Government Interim Chairmanship nominees presented to it by the governor for approval.
Those cleared were for Gabasawa, Karaye, Gaya, Kumbotso, Garko, Bebeji, Nassarawa, Fagge, Gwale, Municipal and Dawakin Kudu.
On July 19, the assembly had cleared 32 out of the 44 nominees presented by the governor leaving nine pending while three were rejected.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Local Governments, Alhaji Ibrahim Garko, while presenting the report said the three nominees earlier rejected had been replaced while three of the nine pending nominees were cleared.
Garko said: “Following the rejection of some nominees and the non-screening of others, the governor presented another list to replace those affected.
“We also screened the new nominees and we are satisfied with their qualifications, experiences and integrity, which led to their approval.”
The report of the committee was unanimously adopted and approved at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Abdullahi Ata.
