The Niger State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has collected about N2.4 billion as internally generated revenue from January to June.
Benjamin Binga, the Area Comptroller, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Monday.
The command supervises Niger, Kogi and Kwara States offices of the service.
Binga said already, proactive security measures to check the activities of smugglers had been put in place.
He also said steps had been taken to meet the revenue target of the area command, which was N2.8 billion for the year.
He said already well trained armed security personnel had been deployed to identify smugglers’ routes to ensure their arrest and prosecution.
Binga said: “Our area of supervision is prohibited to any kind of smuggling business because well-trained personnel had been stationed to prevent the illegal business.”
He solicited the support of communities in the border areas to volunteer information that would assist the officers in discharging their duties effectively.
