The Progressive Peoples Alliance has said the decision of its former Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, to return to the Peoples Democratic Party would not affect its fortunes.
The position of the party was stated by its National Chairman, Chief Sam Nkire, in a statement on Saturday.
Both the PPA and the PDP made overtures to Kalu before the former Abia State governor accepted the invitation of the PDP to return.
Kalu had quit active party politics to concentrate on his pet project, Njiko Igbo, which is aimed at positioning an Igbo of South East extraction for the presidency in 2015.
Nkire said in the statement on Saturday that Kalu, a founding member of PDP, was free to return to the party or any party of his choice for that matter.
The PPA boss said the former Abia State governor left the party about two years ago and that the party had been functioning ever since.
Nkire said political parties were built like churches and mosques with at least two doors: one for entrance and other for exit but without restrictions whatsoever.
Nkire said even though his party would have preferred Kalu returning to the PPA instead of the PDP, there was no love lost between Kalu and members of the PPA.
According to the PPA boss, his party was currently seeking alliances with other political parties even as it is restructuring and strengthening the party in states across the country.
He urged PPA members throughout the federation not to be discouraged by the sad news of Kalu’s return to the PDP but to continue their door-to-door campaign for membership.
He said: “The future of PPA looks brighter everyday.”
