Edward Kakembo, the Ugandan boxer who won the African Boxing Union featherweight title at the fifth edition of GOtv Boxing Night on December 26, 2015, was this week announced winner of the Nile Special Sports Personality Award for last month.
The prestigious award is organised by Uganda’s Sports Press Association.
Kakembo’s defeat of Nigeria’s Waidi “Skoro” Usman to win the title at the GOtv Boxing Night in Lagos swung things in his favour via a vote by USPA members to beat Dennis Masinde Onyango, national football team goalkeeper, with a tally 495 votes to 415 votes.
Onyango guided his South African based club, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, to the Nedbank Cup success.
