President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Friday met for over three hours with critical members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
Among those he met with were governors, National Assembly members and National Working Committee members of the PDP.
It was learnt that the meeting was to examine the challenges facing the nation and proffer solutions.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, who spoke with newsmen after the meeting, said it was principally to x-ray issues that shaped 2012 and make projections for 2013.
Metuh’s interview with newsmen:
What is the essence of the meeting?
It was a meeting among the executive, the legislature, the party’s National Working Committee and the governors of PDP. It has to do with addressing issues facing the nation, x-raying the last year and looking forward for the new year, the vision of the President in line with the agenda of the party and how we want to ensure that we provide for the people of Nigeria. Those are the most important things that we discussed. We want to assure Nigerians that the PDP is ready and able to satisfy the aspirations of Nigerians. We are going to produce a lot of reforms and innovations in the new year to ensure that the people of Nigeria will be happy with the party in government.
What are the new reforms that we expect in the new year?
We will await the President to unfold it. The President is going to address Nigerians in the New Year and the National Assembly will make their position clear in the New Year. We will await the leaders of the country to make their position clear.
Presidential Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Joy Emordi, equally spoke with newsmen after the meeting.
The interview with Mordi:
Was the budget discussed, particularly the disparity between the figure the National Assembly passed and what was presented by the executive?
Yes, it was discussed, like every other thing and I do not think that there is any problem with the budget passed.
Despite the fact that there was no allocation for SEC?
I don’t think that there is problem with anything because we are looking at all the features of the budget.
