Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has confirmed that 15 persons have been killed in his Guma local government area Tuesday, calling on residents to defend themselves.
Ortom made this public while speaking to journalists after the State’s Executive Council meeting Wednesday.
Following the fresh killings, enraged Ortom has urged residents of the State to fight back and defend themselves against killer herdsmen.
” Please tell Mr. President, Nigerians are not happy because no one is at peace, no business is going on. Only bandits are reigning as people are even being killed in the church. Even if we are dying we should die and leave a word. For me, I challenge anyone who thinks what I’m saying is not right so that we can chart a way forward on a superior argument”
He appealed to the Federal Government (FG) not to shift the responsibility of providing security of lives and property to the States, saying he has always been supporting security agencies.
On the delayed payment of salaries, Ortom attributed it to many factors, including non remittance of funds from NNPC and deep fall in Federal allocations, among others.
