INEC seeks partnership with Delta toward successful elections

The Independent Electoral Commission has called for partnership
between it and the Delta State Government on the provision of
accessible roads in the state ahead of the 2015 elections.
The Resident Commissioner in the state, Gesila Khan, made the call in
Asaba, the state capital, on Thursday when the state Commissioner for
Works, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, paid her a courtesy visit.
Khan said that having accessible roads in the state would further
improve the voter registration, which would start soon in the state.
She noted that good and accessible roads would enable INEC officials
to get to all communities for the voter registration and the election
in 2015.
Khan also appealed to the state government to assist the commission in sensitising the people to the forthcoming voter registration and the general elections in 2015.
She stressed that the act of thuggery during elections would not be tolerated.
Khan, however, commended the state government for its Peace and
Security; Human Capital Development and Infrastructural Development
agenda.
She said that the present administration had done so well, especially
in the area of infrastructure development.
Earlier, Solomon said that partnership between it and the Federal
Government would help to attract more dividends of democracy to the
people, especially those at the grassroots.
He said that the state government had spent N40 billion on the
maintenance of federal roads in the state.
He assured INEC that the state government was already working on roads
maintenance to ensure smooth voter registration and unhindered
elections in the state.
