No fewer than 10 illegal immigrants have been repatriated by the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The Comptroller of the NIS, Lagos State Command, Clara Okojie, disclosed this on Tuesday.
Okojie said the foreigners were arrested during a raid on several locations along the Lekki/Epe Expressway and environs.
She said the foreigners constituted nuisance and security threat to the community.
Okojie said: “Security as well as effective policing of irregular migrants in Lagos State is a collective responsibility.
“Members of the public can play their role by providing useful information to the service.”
The spokesperson for the command, Jide Ogungbe, said: “The command’s success can be attributed to effective intelligence gathering and the robust relationship between the command and the police, whose officers acted as back up during the raids.
“These people are irregular migrants as they have stayed beyond 90 days stipulated by the ECOWAS protocol.”
