The sacked Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin, has described his impeachment as illegal.
Omirin said two-third of the House is required to unseat him as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution.
Omirin, while responding on a telephone call monitored on the African Independent Television, said: “The 19 APC (All Progressives Congress) members are intact and we are outside the state because the place is not safe for us.
(Governor Ayo) Fayose is fast becoming a maximum ruler and this cannot stand.”
Omirin, who did not state the next line of action, added that the APC lawmakers would resume duties on Monday to begin their legislative work.
He added: “What they did was illegal because they cannot change the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Ordinarily, we never had the intention of impeaching the governor because he has not committed any offence.
“But we have to leave the state when we realized that our lives are no longer safe.
“As I speak to you, my drivers and other aides have been removed and wild demonstration sponsored by Fayose is ongoing in Ado Ekiti now.
“I want to emphasize that I remain the speaker of the Assembly.”
