A group, the Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria, has demands for an apology from the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, and the Government of Imo State over
what it described as the shameful and uncultured conduct of some hired Imo State women who participated in the ‘Imo Women Sweep Out Jonathan and PDP’ exercise directed at President Goodluck Jonathan.
The group, in a statement on Wednesday, said: “Such exercise against a president of a country or father of our nation is not only alien to Ndigbo culture, but have no place in the tradition and religious faith of Ndigbo, whereby we have been brought up to respect our fathers and mothers, not to mention the father of our nation.
“While we believe in the freedom of political association, we must be careful over the type of conduct we import into Igboland, for there is nothing Imo State stands to gain by being insulting against a sitting president of the nation.
“Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria believes that Gov. Okorocha is a true son of Igboland and a genuine Christian by faith and therefore would not have supported such an exercise, but for the avoidance of doubt, we urge him to publicly apologize to Mr. President on behalf of the renegades parading themselves as Imo Women.
“In the footsteps of former Imo State governor, Late Sam Onunaka Mbakwe of opposition party Nigeria Peoples Party, formed alliance with former President Shehu Shagari of National Party of Nigeria to attract benefits to Imo State, we encourage Gov. Rochas to form allies with President Goodluck Jonathan as many opposition party governors have done to the benefit of their various states.”
The statement was signed by Chief Udoka Udeogaranya, the President of the Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria.
