The Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, on Thursday told Corps members posted to the State that there will be no automatic employment, but that they should be seriously involved in the National Youth Service Corps Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
Governo Bello, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, said at the swearing-in ceremony of Batch A, Stream I Orientation of corps members held at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Paiko: “It is better to take advantage of the skills and learn a vocation so that you can have something to fall back on after the programme.”
Admonishing them, he said: “Make yourselves conversant with as many entrepreneurial skills as possible because there maybe no automatic jobs for you after service.”
Earlier, the NYSC state Coordinator, Funmilayo Ajayi, disclosed that the corps has registered a total of 1,774 corps members for the Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation in the state.
Ajayi said 907 of the corps members were females, while 867 were males, adding that the corps members had exhibited commendable behaviour to camp activities.
Ajayi also disclosed that following the discovery of the Coronavirus (CONVID-19) in the country, the NYSC had taken proactive measure by providing infrared thermometers as well as hand sanitisers, adding that sensitisation leaflets on Lassa fever and Coronavirus are being distributed.
Also, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of NYSC Board, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, assured that the state government will continue to do all that is within it’s ability to improve the facilities in the camp towards ensuring that corps members have conducive and safe environment.
