The Minister spoke through the Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Council and Vice Chairman of the Abuja mult-sectoral cleaning Task Force, Architect Reuben Okoya who met with members of the Task Force at the weekend.
He listed areas where motorbike riders are totally banned from operating as Abuja Capital City Centre and all its allied estates, districts, towns, quarters and settlements. They are also banned from all Abuja City’s major entry/exit expressways such as the Airport Road, including Umaru Yar’Adua Expressway and Bill Clinton Drive.
Other areas where the motorcycles are banned include the Zuba-Kubwa-City Centre Expressway; the Nnamdi Azikiwe Ring Road; all the towns, settlements, estates, villages in and around Asokoro, Guzape, Nyanya-Karu-Kugbo-AYA Express road.
Okoya stated that the ban of tricycles remain in force in the city metropolis, including the whole of Garki, Wuse, Asokoro, Maitama, Jabi, Gwarinpa, Utako, Durumi, Lokogoma and Apo.
Okoya said: “All concerned are hereby informed that tricycles are not allowed to operate within the Federal Capital City. As a matter of fact, they are only allowed to operate within the satellite towns and big estates. That’s provided the estate owners or managers allow them.”
He added: “All tricycle riders plying the city centre’s major roads are flouting FCT route operation directives. Those disobeying the directives would be apprehended by the Task Force Team, the VIO, the Police and other security agencies. The offenders would be charged before the mobile courts already put in place for their prosecution.”
He stressed that the ban cuts across board irrespective of person, rank or position.
