“From next week, you will witness a tornado across Urhobo ethnic nationality. As I speak to you, I am the only person who has emerged at the Senatorial district as the candidate of my party for the by-election. The nine of them in PDP are still aspirants. I am waiting for who will emerge as the candidate of the party then we will do the battle.”
With these words in Asaba, the Delta State capital, few minutes ago, the former Special Adviser to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan on Community Newspapers, Olorogun David Akposheri Omoru, declared his intention to fill the vacuum created by the sudden death of the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Pius Akpos Ewherido.
Uduaghan relieved him of his appointment three years ago in a letter routed via the office of the Secretary to the State Government for undisclosed reasons.
Speaking at his campaign secretariat in Asaba, Omoru said come September 21, Asaba would be agog when the national leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance would storm the capital city to handover the flag of the party to him.
He said his mission was not to impoverish the people of his constituent but to liberate them from untold hardship of marginalization despite the fact that Urhobo nation represents the fifth largest ethnic nationality in Nigeria.
He said: “I am on a rescue mission. My people are suffering from acute marginalization at the federal level.
“This is the time to build friendship across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“I will work passionately with the Federal Government to attract necessary dividends for my people.
“I must say this, the Urhobo women are worst of poverty.
“It is only in Urhobo nation that you find women doing concrete works.
“That is barbaric in this modern age.
“An end will be put to all these.
“Hence, I have devoted 30 per cent of my salary for women empowerment, 20 per cent for youth empowerment, 20 per cent for education of children and 30 per cent for personal logistics and legislative expenditure.”
Flanked by the state chairman of APGA, Chief Tony Eboka, Omoru said no registered political party is bad in itself but the dishonest and undemocratic people piloting it affairs.
He revealed how Ewherido weathered the storm during the 2011 general election to beat the Peoples Democratic Part hands down through the opposition Democratic Peoples Party.
Omoru said: “Ewherido was able to win the seat that year because the Urhobos were tired of mischief-makers and party affiliation.
“They now believe in personality and the party you are coming from.
“This is where I hinge my campaign and consultation.
“APGA has men of integrity and people-oriented manifesto.
“I am a candidate to beat in the election.
“Delta Central is not consistent in terms of party but credible person.
“From the 12 persons contesting against me, I am the most credible.”
