Ekiti poll: Catholic bishop condemns massive deployment of security agents

The Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Ekiti State, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye, has said that the massive deployment of security agents to the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election amounts to war against the country.
The bishop, in a statement in Ado Ekiti, said the energy dissipated in the deployment of the troop to a “peaceful state” should have been used to bring back the over 200 girls in the captivity of insurgent Boko Haram.
Ajakaye, in the statement entitled: “Ekiti election 2014: ‘War’ in a peaceful state,” also criticised security operatives for barring four governors of the All Progressives Congress- controlled states from entering Ekiti State on Thursday for the grand finale of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s re-election campaign.
The bishop described the action as undemocratic, dictatorial and a step towards anarchy.
He added: “I urge the National Assembly and sincere and peaceful Nigerians to rise up, act and save our beloved country, Nigeria, from moving towards the precipice.
“We must wake up from our slumber. A ‘siddon’ look attitude will destroy our common heritage, Nigeria belongs to us. It is our country and we must not mortgage it.”
Ajakaye lamented that the atmosphere created with the ‘massive deployment’ of security operatives and equipment is alarming and also “create the atmosphere of war, not election”.
