A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday ordered a 32-year-old deaf and dumb, Aliu Sanni, to be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons for alleged trafficking in cocaine.
The Prosecutor, Kalu Orji, told the court that the accused was found with 17.8 kilogrammes of cocaine at a motor park in Iddo, Lagos on March 26.
Orji said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
If found guilty of the offence, Sanni could serve life imprisonment.
The accused pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of dealing in cocaine after an interpreter, Olajide Adeniyi, read the charge to him.
The prosecutor, thereafter, requested the court that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending his sentence.
Sanni’s counsel, Godwin Okaka, did not object to the application for remand.
Justice Mohammed Idris ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons for a review of facts on the case and sentencing.
Idris adjourned the case to June 2.
