Canada reiterates support for Nigeria in its war against terrorism

Chris Cooter, the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, has reiterated his country’s support to Nigeria’s efforts at combat terrorism.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja and signed by Cooter.
The statement condemned the recent killing of 29 secondary school students and a teacher in Mamudo, Potiskum, Yobe State.
Cooter said: “On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims of the attacks, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
“Canada stands with the people of Nigeria, and we support Nigeria in its efforts to combat terrorism.”
The statement described the attack on school children as barbaric, saying that it “demonstrates that the attackers have no moral reference points but are simply vicious thugs driven by a thirst for violence.”
Following the attack on Saturday morning, the Yobe State Government ordered the closure of all schools in the state.
In condemning the heinous crime, President Goodluck Jonathan said the perpetrators would rot in hell.
In May, the Federal Government declared a state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States to curb the terrorist activities of Boko Haram.
Jonathan, however, offered amnesty to members of the group, who renounce violence.
