The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Monday described President Muhammadu Buhari as a true democrat for signing into law the bill granting financial autonomy to state legislature.
Abdullahi made the assertion in Lafia while reacting to the financial autonomy for legislature and judiciary as well as declaration of June 12 as Democracy Day by the president.
According to him, the action would deepen democracy; strengthen rule of law and the wellbeing of Nigerians.
Abdullahi said that the autonomy would also fast track legislative duties and enhance performance of state lawmakers.
He said: “President Buhari is a courageous leader that has done what past democratically elected presidents could not do by granting autonomy to state Houses of Assembly and Judiciary.
“This singular gesture will greatly change the future of Nigerians, deepen democracy and enhance good governance.
“I will also like to observe that the declaration of June 12 and honour done to the acclaimed winner of 1993 Presidential election is a good omen for the country.
“It has also placed the President as a messiah that has come to deliver this nation from its emerging challenges.
“I commend the President for posthumously awarding the highest honour of GCFR to the late Chief MKO Abiola, his running mate, Ambasador Babagana Kingibe and late Gani Fawehinmi SAN with GCON.
“President Buhari deserves commendation for these gestures.”
The speaker, therefore, urged Nigerians to pray and support Buhari beyond 2019, to ensure a secured and brighter future.
He advised the President not to be distracted by mischief makers, saying God and majority of Nigerians were solidly behind him.
