Aneke grabs brace in Crewe win

A magnificent brace from Chuks Aneke and a Byron Moore strike earned Crewe Alex a priceless three points in their League One dogfight on Saturday.
Fellow strugglers, Sheffield United, were the visitors and the stakes could hardly have been higher.
The victors would be lifted out of the drop zone while the losers would be plunged deeper into trouble.
And the Railwaymen rose to the occasion.
None more so than Arsenal loan man, Aneke, who fired in a pair of breath-taking goals in the first half.
And sub Moore capped it at the death.
The result means Crewe climbed to 19th – three points from the bottom four – while Nigel Clough’s Blades will spend the rest of the weekend second from bottom.
After a distinctly scrappy and uneventful first half hour in which Crewe tried hardest to play good football and the visitors forced five corners, the game sprung into life in the 34th minute.
In the 37th minute, the breakthrough arrived.
Aneke, who had looked slightly off the pace, shrugged aside a man as he worked his way down the right.
Then, with defenders trailing in his wake, he cut inside, drove toward goal and dispatched a brilliant left-footed curler from the edge of the box, which found Long’s bottom corner.
And on the stroke of half time, Leitch-Smith’s driven free-kick was only half-cleared and Aneke lashed a tremendous right-footer into the back of the net.
Immediately after the restart, Crewe were opened up for the first time and Conor Coady raced through and it took diving challenges from Mark Ellis and Garratt to avert the danger.
In the 50th minute, Jose Baxter easily got past Ellis and sent in a low cross, which Paynter tried to flick home but failed to make a proper contact with the ball.
At the other end, on 58 minutes, a great move down right involving skipper Matt Tootle got Aneke in on goal.
He nipped round the keeper and found Leitch-Smith but the striker could not get in a clean strike on goal.
Then Brad Inman beat Brayford for the first time but Long was equal to his effort.
But in truth, Crewe defended fairly comfortably and actually looked the team most likely to get the third goal.
And they got it in injury time when Inman, who finished the game very strongly, drove into the box and, when his shot was half-stopped by Long, sub Moore tapped in at the far post to tee off the celebrations.
