Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has stressed the need for Nigerians to strive to acquire adequate knowledge in one business or the other in order to make ends meet and banish poverty in the country.
He stated this on Friday while receiving board members of Ibadan Business School led by the Chairman, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi who were on a courtesy call on him at the Governor’s Office, Ibadan.
The governor, who also harped on the need for all tiers of government to apply the philosophy of business in all their day-to-day activities, said this had become imperative in order to allow for good governance and satisfy the yearnings of the people.
“What we need in Nigeria today is that paradigm of business where government must apply business philosophy in all that we do,” he affirmed.
While commending the management of the School for the laudable and noble goals of setting it up, Governor Ajimobi pledged his administration’s support for the development of the school whose establishment he said was long overdue, so that it could achieve the goals.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to making life worth living for the people of the state through the provision of social infrastructures and human capital development as well as social services such as good roads, potable water, electricity, quality health care delivery system and leisure.
All these, the governor said, would help immensely in the development of the state’s economy and the thriving of the Business School.
Governor Ajimobi expressed the hope that given the caliber of the personalities that made up the board, the institution would soon become a leading Business School, not only in Nigeria but also in Africa and that it would contribute to the intellectual development of the people of the state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
Earlier in their remarks, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the School, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi and Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) said that the school was established to satisfy those who were yearning for knowledge, especially in skill acquisition.
They disclosed that no fewer than 37 personalities would enjoy free e-learning and face-to-face learning programme of the school from the state.
