Again, US-based nominee fails to show up for Buhari’s job

President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee as the Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, Prof. Akintunde Akinwande, on Wednesday failed to show up again for the screening by the Senate.
This is the second time Akinwande would be absent from scheduled screening.
His name was forwarded to the Senate alongside those of others for the NERC Board in October by President Buhari.
Akinwande, who is based in the United States of America, however, did not show up for screening when others did.
His screening was rescheduled for Wednesday by the Senate.
He also did not show up.
When the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, who had initially explained Akinwade’s failure to turn up for screening as based on the need to obtain clearance from his employers in the United States tried putting up another explanation, the Senate expressed reservation.
A member of the Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe-led committee on the screening, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, said Akinwande had sent a personal message to decline the offer by his absence.
Hunkuyi told Enang: “If somebody says I will not be able to make it, what does that imply?”
Enang did not respond to the question.
Akinwande, who teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, was yet to make any official statement as at press time.
