Man jailed for stealing Kaduna Electric cable

A suspected vandal, Yahaya Idris, caught at Tashar Yari in Zaria, Kaduna State has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Zaria.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sarki Abdurrahman, read the charges to the accused.
Idris was charged with trespassing into Kaduna Electric transformer and stealing four meters incomer cable valued at N200,000.
He reportedly sold it to one Alhaji who is at large at the rate of N20,000.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Umaru Bature, found Idris guilty of the charges against him as follows.
He was sentenced to six months in prison with option of N5,000 fine.
On the charge of theft, Idris was sentenced to one year imprisonment without an option or fine.
Hee was also mandated to pay N200,000 as compensation for the stolen cable or with an option of another one and a half years imprisonment.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
Reacting to the judgment, Kaduna Electric through the Head, Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, commended the judiciary for its efforts and prompt adjudication of cases before the courts.
The company assured the judiciary of maximum cooperation at all times.
Abdullahi said he hoped the this sentence would serve as deterrent to would be vandals.
