Sixteen members of the Super Eagles have commenced training ahead of this weekend’s AFCON 2021 qualifiers in Benin City.
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu, a registered member of Insurance FC, also took part in the session monitored by the national team’s manager, Gernot Rohr.
Earlier in the day, the number of players in camp had risen to 16.
Skipper Ahmed Musa was joined by Everton’s Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun, Kevin Akpoguma, Sebastin Osigwe, Zaidu Sanusi, and Tyronne Ebuehi.
Others in camp are Etebo Oghenekaro, Maduka Okoye and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who replaced Daniel Akpeyi, Chidozie Awaziem, Kelechi Iheanacho and Emmanuel Dennis.
Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Shehu Abdullahi, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, Chidera Ejuke and Jamilu Collins are still being expected to arrive as at Tuesday night.
Super Eagles’ opponents, the Leone Stars, according to camp sources, will jet into the country on Wednesday.
They also expected to have a feel of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium’s pitch later on arrival.
With four points from two games against Sierra Leone, qualifies Nigeria for the AFCON 2022 in Cameroon.
