The Lagos State Government has withdrawn its earlier position that Nigeria’s Ambassador to Liberia, Chigozie Obi-Nnadozie, was one of those who had contact with the Liberian Ebola virus victim, who died in Lagos over the weekend.
Rather, the Lagos State Government said it was a representative of the President of the Economic Community of West African States, Kadre Desire Ouedraogo, who had the contact with the Ebola virus victim.
A statement on Tuesday by Hakeem Bello, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State, apologised for the mix-up though it was blamed on the representative of the Federal Government at the press briefing.
Bello said the state government was aware of the inconveniences the report would have caused Obi-Nnadozie and therefore tendered unreserved apology.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Jide Idris, had on Monday listed Obi-Nnadozie as one of the 59 persons that came into contact with the Ebola virus victim.
Idris said the government had identified the 59 persons and was working towards isolating them for proper checks.
Bello, however, said in the statement on Tuesday: “We, however wish to state here that the error was made by the official of the Federal Government who was at the briefing on Monday and provided the information at the Lagos Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.”
