The Progressive Peoples Alliance in Ebonyi State has won a court injunction stopping all processes leading to the local government election in the state.
The injunction will last pending the hearing of the substantive suit before the Federal High Court in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
The party had gone to court to ask among other things that the Open Secret Ballot System as contained in the Electoral Act (As amended) be adopted by the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission as the system of voting.
The Progressive Peoples Alliance is also contesting the exorbitant levy EBSIEC has imposed on candidates for the election.
Chairmanship candidates are to pay N400,000 while councillorship candidates must pay N100,000 before being allowed to contest the election.
When the case came up for hearing, the court granted PPA all the applications it sought and adjourned the matter to August 20, 2013.
