Benjamin Dikki, the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, has pledged to reposition the agency in line with the Federal Government’s transformation agenda.
Dikki made the pledge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja, shortly after a reception organised for him by a committee of friends to celebrate his appointment.
NAN recalls that President Goodluck Jonathan on May 15 announced Dikki’s appointment as the Director-General of BPE.
Dikki, who described his appointment as an act of God, expressed his determination to ensure transparency and effective service delivery in public enterprises.
He, however, underscored the need to fast-track the passage of the transport sector’s bills to enable the private sector to invest in the infrastructural development of the sector.
He said: “We are working with relevant stakeholders to ensure, within a very short time, the passage of the transport sector bills so as to allow private capital to move into the sector.
“These laws will provide the legal and regulatory framework that will enhance private-sector participation in the development of our railways, roads, inland water-ways and sea ports.”
The director-general stressed that the active participation of the private sector in the transport sector would go a long way in bringing about efficiency and transformation in the sector.
Dikki also stressed the need to revive the Abuja Commodity Exchange and reposition it for effective service delivery.
“We are also working on the Abuja Commodity Exchange to be able to stabilise the prices of commodities and also ensure a sure market for our commodities,” he added.
